Goldilocks Had It Right: Homes Should Feel Just Right
The founder’s journey to her Goldilocks home—and the belief that every woman deserves the same
When I was a young girl, I grew up in a home where cleanliness was a priority. My mother, raising five children at the time, ran a tight ship—relentlessly dedicated to keeping everything clean. We learned responsibility, teamwork, and pride in caring for our space. But while our home was spotless, it lacked something essential: systems that made life simpler. Without true organization, “clean” often meant constant work. With that said, our home still offered comfort, a place to unwind from the stresses of the day.
When my parents split in my preteen years, I witnessed how life transitions can silently unravel a home. Both of my parents' houses slowly shifted from order to overwhelm. As they navigated the emotional weight of change, their homes mirrored their inner lives—without strong systems to anchor them, the spaces grew chaotic. The cycle was invisible at first: mental clutter led to physical clutter, which led to even more mental overwhelm. It was a pattern that repeated, simply because no one had taught them how to create lasting, supportive systems.
Moving out on my own, I faced a choice: What kind of home did I want to create?
I knew I didn’t want the exhausting pressure of a perfectly clean house. But I also didn’t want the quiet stress of papers that piled up or overflowing closets I desperately tried to avoid. I was searching for a home that felt effortless—one that was peaceful, beautiful, and sustainable.
In Japan I discovered the principle of Kanso—the beauty of simplicity through reducing clutter and focusing on essentials. In every home I visited, I noticed functionality that was simple, elegant, and intentional. Everything they owned had a space of its own and every system supported the life lived inside it.
This changed the way I view what a home could be.
A home doesn't have to be cleaned constantly to be a place of peace. The alternative doesn't have collect clutter as life gets busier. These are two extremes. A home can complement your life and the way you live it. Systems can be created and used with ease. Organizing isn't another chore to add to the list but a way to minimize them and maximize time for the things you love.
